HOUR 1 AUDIO – Dr. Kik – HAPPY Chinese New Year of the Wooden Horse

HOUR 2 AUDIO – Dr. Hildy and Veronica Hendricks – HOLLYWOOD HOOFBEATS

000a“A horse is a horse, of course, of course, and no one can talk to a horse of course…” Like the famous refrain from Mr. Ed says, no one can talk to a horse, but imagine if we could. What would it tell us? Unlike the famous television equine, most horses cannot talk, but their importance in our culture is undeniable. From transportation to companionship, the horse has been an important part of human development for thousands of years. And 2014 will be no exception.

This week on One Cell, One Light Radio, in the first hour of the show, Dr. Hildy will

welcome returning guest Dr. Kathleen I. Kimball – better known as Dr. KIK, Feng Shui geomancer and expert in world art – for a discussion on 2014’s role in the Chinese Zodiac as the Year of the Wood Horse.

Like the famed legend of the Trojan Horse, 2014 will be full of surprises as it is regarded as a year of quick victories, unexpected adventures, and surprising romances. Those born in the Year of the Horse are complicated individuals according to the Chinese Zodiac; due to the seemingly contradictory nature of the personality traits of this sign, Horse people can be endearing and at the same time infuriating.

The Wood Horse is fortunate, though, in that this “wood” element balances the best and the worst characteristics of Horse people. The element of wood makes them more stable so that they are less capricious and less prone to emotionality than their other Horse counterparts.

In the 2nd hour of the show, Dr. Hildy will lead a discussion on the role of the horse in cinema. Since its inception, movies have provided some of their most thrilling moments on horseback, and provided moviegoers with some of the more memorable animal characters in history. From Eadward Muybridge’s famed 1882 “film” The Horse In Motion, the equine has been an important part of film. Who could imagine the numerous Westerns made in the early talkie era without the thousands of horses that had to be trained and rode for take after take? The horse has been portrayed as a creature of great majesty, such as in Black Beauty and even Jarhead, to a complicated object of greed as a racehorse in Secretariat and Seabiscuit. Not to mention a trusted friend, such as Roy Rogers’ Trigger and Woody’s horse Bullseye in the Toy Story movies.

Join Dr. Hildy and her guest this week as they discuss all things horse on One Cell, One Light Radio!

Benefit from Year of the Horse – Tips for Success in 2014

CHINESE MYTHOLOGY – THE HORSE
Horses are an important motif in Chinese mythology.  There are many myths about the horse or horses, or horse-like beings, including the pony.   One of the main characters in the classic novel Journey to the West mostly appears in the form of a white horse, but is really a converted dragon, Yulong, the third son of the Dragon King (Ao run, of the West Sea); in order to redeem himself from his past unfilial sins, Boddhisatva Guan Yin gracefully allows him to serve as a mount for the monk Xuanzang during his mission to fetch scriptures form “the West” with the Monkey King (Sun Wukong) as a supervisor of the celestial stables.

The spirit of the horse is recognized to be the Chinese people’s ethos – making unremitting efforts to improve themselves. It is energetic, bright, warm-hearted, intelligent and able. Ancient people liked to designate an able person as ‘Qianli Ma’, a horse that covers a thousand li a day (one li equals 500 meters).

Strengths
People born in the year of the horse have ingenious communicating techniques and in their community they always want to be in the limelight. They are clever, kind to others, and like to join in a venture career. Although they sometimes talk too much, they are cheerful, perceptive, talented, earthy but stubborn. They like entertainment and large crowds. They are popular among friends, active at work and refuse to be reconciled to failure, although their endeavor cannot last indefinitely.

Weaknesses
They cannot bear too much constraint. However their interest may be only superficial and lacking real substance. They are usually impatient and hot blooded about everything other than their daily work. They are independent and rarely listen to advice. Failure may result in pessimism. They usually have strong endurance but with bad temper. Flamboyant by nature, they are wasteful since they are not good with matters of finance due to a lack of budgetary efficiency. Some of those who are born in the horse like to move in glamorous circles while pursuing high profile careers. They tend to interfere in many things and frequently fail to finish projects of their own.

Guest – Veronica Hendricks, Film director and producer

Many of us grew up watching TV and going to the movies.  All of us loved seeing our favorite actor or actress riding their beautiful horses through the silver screen.   Today’s second hour will be dedicated to the horses that were not only actors themselves, but the famed stunt horse.   And know that some of these movie stars did not even know how to ride their precious steed.

Since the birth of the cinema, the movie hors has enjoyed a long canter in the limelight from the first movie documenting the walk of a horse on film to the famous talking horse of TV-land – Mr. Ed.    Some of the actors’ horses became just as famous as their famous actor riders. And of course we cannot forget the famous RACE Horses such as Man O War, Sea Biscuit and Secretariat.
