http://wric.com/2016/05/12/fda-label-changes-for-fluoroquinolones-to-include-warnings-of-serious-side-effects/

EXCERPT:  “According to the FDA, a safety review has shown that fluoroquinolones are associated with disabling and potentially permanent, serious side effects that can occur together. These side effects can involve the tendons, muscles, joints, nerves, and central nervous system.  As a result, the FDA is requiring label changes for all systemic fluoroquinolone antibacterial drugs to reflect this new safety information.”

“In Greek mythology, when Achilles was a baby, it was foretold that he would die in battle.  To prevent his death, his mother Thetis took Achilles to the River Styx which was supposed to offer powers of invulnerability and dipped his body into the water.  But as Thetis held Achilles by the heel, his heel was not washed over by the water of the magical river.  Achilles grew up to be a man of war who survived many great battles.  But one day, a poisonous arrow shot at him and was lodged into his heel, killing him shortly after.  Still, Achilles is remembered as one of the greatest fighters who ever lived, but will this be true for the family of medications (drugs) known as FLUOROQUINOLONES?”

LEVAQUIN, CIPRO DANGERS – Fluoroquinolones

Modern medicine is full of wonders. Through research and drug manufacturing, we’ve been able to effectively treat and cure a great number of diseases and other ailments. But these drugs do not come without cost, and almost all of them have adverse side effects when taking them. While most side effects are manageable some can be much more serious and rival the benefits that the drugs themselves provide. Medicinal drugs are big business and it’s very important to do as much research as possible.

This week on One Cell, One Light Radio, Dr. Hildy™ welcomes once again Rosalind Peterson to discuss a widely prescribed family of antibiotics called Fluoroquinolones, broad-spectrum antibiotics that play an important role in treatment of serious bacterial infections, especially hospital-acquired infections and others in which resistance to older antibacterial classes is suspected. The drugs Levaquin and Cipro are two of the brand names of drugs in this category. But research has found that these drugs can have unforeseen and very serious side effects and that these drugs have many side-effects which can appear days, weeks, or months after discontinuing usage.

As of 2011, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has added two Black box warnings for Levaquin in reference to spontaneous tendon ruptures and the fact that it may cause worsening of myasthenia gravis symptoms, including muscle weakness and breathing problems. Such an adverse reaction is a potentially life-threatening event and may require ventilatory support.

Further complicating the issue is the fact that in many instances, patients admitted to hospitals are not warned in advance that one of these drugs may be used to treat their symptoms. Hospital consultations on drugs should take place prior to being used on patients, including notification about effective drugs with less serious side-effects. This would give patients and family members a choice of possible alternatives and also prevent the use of drug, which could impair their health in the future.

Join Dr. Hildy™ and her guest, Rosalind Peterson, this week as they discuss the potential, and oftentimes unrealized dangers of Fluoroquinolones and other drugs, on One Cell One Light Radio!

50% Increase In Developing Alzheimers – benzodiazepines (which include Xanax, Klonopin, Valium, Ambien, Halcion, Restoril, Lorazepam and dozens more)

Now, breaking research suggests a strong link between widely used drugs known as benzodiazepines (which include Xanax, Klonopin, Valium, Ambien, Halcion, Restoril, Lorazepam and dozens more) and a doubling in the risk of developing dementia. The study by scientists from Harvard University and the University of Bordeaux in France, was just published in the British Medical Journal (BMJ) and involved 1,063 men and women who were all free of dementia at the start of the trial. Followed for several years, those who began taking benzodiazepines demonstrated a 50 percent increase in developing Alzheimer’s type problems compared to those who never used the drugs.
