On August 29th, 1997, three billion human lives ended on what became known as Judgment Day. The survivors lived only to face a new nightmare: the war against the machines.

This, of course, never happened in our reality, but is the main plot of Terminator 2: Judgement Day, the highly successful film predicated on one idea: artificial intelligence would one day recognize humanity as its enemy, and seek to destroy it. Though these movies are obvious fiction, the theme behind them lives on: how will the future of warfare look if we remove the human element?

This week on One Cell One Light Radio, Dr. Hildy welcomes returning guest,  Louis A. Del Monte, award-winning physicist, inventor, futurist, bestselling author, featured speaker, CEO of Del Monte and Associates, Inc., and high-profile media personality, to discuss his newly published book, Genius Weapons .

For over thirty years, Del Monte was a leader in the development of microelectronics, integrated circuit sensors, and microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) for IBM and Honeywell. His patents and technology developments are currently used by Honeywell, IBM, and Samsung.

Artificial intelligence is playing an ever-increasing role in military weapon systems. Going beyond the bomb-carrying drones used in the Afghan war, the Pentagon is now in a race with China and Russia to develop “lethal autonomous weapon systems” (LAWS). In this eye-opening overview, Mr. Del Monte examines the advantages and potential threats to humanity resulting from the deployment of completely autonomous weapons systems. Stressing the likelihood that these weapons will be available in the coming decades, the author raises key questions about how the world will be impacted.

Though the benefits are enormous when considering the human cost of warfare, it is imperative that the potential for automated control of our defense be examined at all times. It is not far-fetched to believe artificially intelligent computers could mis-identify a target, and set in motion a chain of events that could bring about large-scale global warfare or even the end of humanity as we know it.

Join Dr. Hildy and her guest this week as they discuss autonomous weaponry on One Cell One Light Radio!

Editorial Reviews

“A highly readable and deeply researched exploration of one of the most chilling aspects of the development of artificial intelligence: the creation of intelligent, autonomous killing machines. In Louis A. Del Monte’s view, the multibillion dollar arms industry and longstanding rivalries among nations make the creation of autonomous weapons extremely likely. We must resist the allure of genius weapons, Del Monte argues, because they will almost inevitably lead to our extinction.”

—James Barrat, author of Our Final Invention: Artificial Intelligence and the End of the Human Era

“For the second time in history, humanity is on the verge of creating weapons that might wipe us out entirely. Will we have the wisdom not to use them? No one can say, but this book will give you the facts you need to think about the issue intelligently.”

—J. Storrs Hall, author of Beyond AI: Creating the Conscience of the Machine

“This thought-provoking read provides insight into future world weapons scenarios we may face as technology rapidly advances. A call to arms for humanity, this book details the risks if we do not safeguard technology and weapon development.”

—Carl Hedberg, semiconductor sales and manufacturing management for thirty-seven years at Honeywell, Inc.

“In Genius Weapons, Del Monte provides a thorough and well-researched review of the history and development of ‘smart weapons’ and artificial intelligence. Then, using his background and imagination, he paints a very frightening picture of our possible future as these technologies converge. He challenges our understanding of warfare and outlines the surprising threat to mankind that may transpire in the not-too-distant future.”

—Anthony Hickl, PhD in materials science and former director of Project and Portfolio Management for New Products at Cargill

“We are already living the next war, which is increasingly being fought with the developing weapons that Del Monte writes about so engagingly.”

—Istvan Hargittai, Budapest University of Technology and Economics, author of Judging Edward Teller

“Del Monte explores a fascinating topic, which is of great importance to the world as the implementation of AI continues to grow. He points out the many applications of AI that can help humanity improve nearly every aspect of our lives—in medicine, business, finance, marketing, manufacturing, education, etc. He also raises important ethical concerns that arise with the use of AI in weapons systems and warfare. The book examines the difficulty of controlling these systems as they become more and more intelligent, someday becoming smarter than humans.”

—Edward Albers, retired semiconductor executive at Honeywell Analytics

HOUR 1 –

HOUR 2

~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~

Despite our ever-shrinking world, it’s always hard to imagine how much smaller things can get. Computers which once took up entire rooms now fit in our pocket. Libraries now fit on a device you can take with you anywhere. But this is just the tip of the iceberg. As tech moves forward, it gets smaller, and the future is nano.

This week on One Cell, One Light Radio, Dr. Hildy welcomes returning guests – Artist Rick Dubov and Film Producer/Director Veronica Hendricks to discuss updates in the advancement of nanotechnology – cellular-level tech that is changing our world.

Nanotech is already in full swing in our world. The most common current use is in coatings – substances you can spray on clothing to repel water, or to help an item repel sunlight to stop fading. However, this is just the tip of the iceberg.

One of the predicted uses of nano is in biotech. Nano sensors could one day enter the bloodstream and provide real-time analysis of your physical health. Instead of drawing blood and having it analyzed at a lab, you could get the results instantaneously. Work is already being done on synthetic cells – ones created in a lab but potentially used in a variety of ways, including genetic modification, fertilization, and more.

Nano isn’t the only area of tech that is rapidly growing. With advancements in virtual reality, the possibility of creating experiences that feel real to the user are endless. Imagine being able to see the world from the perspective of someone different than you. Imagine how you might feel about race if you could live life for a day as someone who is not like you. Or imagine learning surgery without cutting open a body.

Join Dr. Hildy and her guests this week as they talk about advancements in nano and other technologies on One Cell One Light Radio!

Researchers develop medical device that dissolves in the body –
Northwestern University and Washington University School of Medicine researchers have developed the first example of a bioelectronic medicine: an implantable, biodegradable wireless device that speeds nerve regeneration and improves healing of a damaged nerve. Their device delivered pulses of electricity to damaged nerves in rats after a surgical repair process, accelerating the regrowth of nerves and enhancing the recovery of muscle strength and control. The device is the size of a dime and the thickness of a sheet of paper and dissolves in the body after about two weeks.

This Horrifying ‘Slaughterbot’ Video Is The Best Warning Against Autonomous Weapons – Facial Recognition DAVID NIELD – 22 NOV 2017
We’re on the verge of creating autonomous weapons that can kill without any help from humans. Thousands of experts are concerned about this – and the latest campaign effort against this tech is a chilling video demonstrating the kind of future we’re heading for.
In the short, which we’ve embedded below, swarms of AI-controlled drones carry out strikes on thousands of unprepared victims with targeted precision. What makes the clip so scary is that the scenario is entirely plausible. The video starts with a spectacular press event where the technology is unveiled for the first time. The miniature drones are able to take out “the bad guys” – whoever they happen to be – without any collateral damage, nuclear weapons, or troops on the ground.

HOLLYWOOD GOES HALLOWEEN!!!

Re-Visiting Wednesday, October 31, 2012

HOUR 1 AUDIO:

Often unsettling, horrifying, and intense, horror films are designed to terrify, cause dread and alarm, and to invoke our hidden worst fears all while safely entertaining us in a cathartic experience. Horror films center on the dark side of life; the forbidden, strange and alarming events that we only want to experience vicariously through the characters onscreen.

The horror genre has existed since the very beginning of cinema. In 1896, French visionary Georges Melies directed the two minute short Le Manoir Du Diable (aka The Devil’s Castle/The Haunted Castle) – containing familiar elements of later horror and vampire films: a flying bat, a medieval castle, a cauldron, a demon figure (Mephistopheles), and skeletons, ghosts, and witches – and a crucifix to dispatch with evil.

A hallmark of the genre is the vampire film, the first of which was F.W. Murnau’s silent masterpiece Nosferatu (1922), turning the title character from Bram Stokers famous novel into a hideous monster. Capitalizing on the growing demand for these films, Universal Studios released in 1923 The Hunchback of Notre Dame, starring Lon Chaney.

This was the beginning of what would become the most success any studio has had with the genre, as Universal went on to make Dracula, Frankenstein, The Mummy, The Invisible Man, Bride of Frankenstein, The Wolf Man, The Creature From the Black Lagoon and countless others through the 1930’s, 40’s and 50’s. In 1948, Universal released the comedy film Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein, which is considered to have effectively ended the golden age of classic horror monsters, despite being a huge box office success.

While Universal would not revive their classic monsters until 1999, with a remake of The Mummy starring Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz, the 1950’s gave way to a new style of horror, one inspired by the Cold War-era nuclear paranoia of the time. Paramount’s The Blob is a famous example, about an alien lifeform that consumes everything in its path. Another example of this genre is Them!, a film about ants turning into giant killing machines in the wake of a nuclear explosion.

In 1968, director George A. Romero ushered in one of the most popular sub-genres in horror, the modern zombie film, with Night of the Living Dead. This trope has been done time and time again, with Romero himself making 6 films in the series, and is enjoying popular success on television with AMC’s The Walking Dead.

In the 1970’s, the slasher film was born, with The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, a film that is still unsettling to watch to this day and Halloween, which started the long series of horror films continued with Nightmare on Elm Street and Friday the 13th, whose main killer characters met in 2003 with Freddy vs. Jason.

Today the horror genre is alive and well, with many directors going an independent route, abandoning the hoop-jumping that comes with studio pictures. Films such as Paranormal Activity, Saw, V/H/S and Insidious take advantage of the lowered cost that digital filmmaking allows for to provide a new type of scary movie. And there’s still scary movies that are safe for all ages, with Hotel Transylvania, Tim Burton’s Frankenweenie and director Joe Johnston’s The Hole.

Join Dr. Hildy and her guest, screenwriter Eric Ernst, this week as they discuss horror films past and present on One Cell One Light Radio!

Conte Rossi and Empress of the Dragon

ONE HOUR AUDIO:

z1 - ericOver the last few decades, Halloween has grown from a night centered around children trick or treating, to a multi-billion dollar industry. Costumes, décor, parties, haunted house events – all have made the Halloween season the unofficial kickoff to the end-of-year holidays. But like most traditions, its original meaning has been lost throughout the years.

This week on One Cell One Light Radio, Dr. Hildy hosts a discussion on the origins of Halloween with Screenwriter, Eric Ernst. Today’s Halloween customs are thought to have been influenced by folk customs and beliefs from the Celtic-speaking countries, some of which have pagan roots, and others that may be rooted in Celtic Christianity.

b - Samhain(click on image to enlarge)

Samhain was the first and most important of the four quarter-days in the medieval Gaelic calendar and was celebrated in Ireland, Scotland, and the Isle of Man on or about October 31 and kindred festivals were held at the same time of year by the Brittonic Celts.

Samhain marked the end of the harvest season and beginning of winter or the ‘darker half’ of the year. It was seen as a liminal time, when the spirits or fairies (the Aos Sí) could more easily come into our world and were particularly active. At Samhain, it was believed that the Aos Sí needed to be propitiated to ensure that the people and their livestock survived the winter. Offerings of food and drink were left for the Aos Sí and the souls of the dead were also said to revisit their homes. Places were set at the dinner table or by the fire to welcome them. In 19th century Ireland, candles would be lit and prayers formally offered for the souls of the dead. After this the eating, drinking, and games would begin. The household festivities included rituals and games intended to divine one’s future, especially regarding death and marriage.

Today’s Halloween customs are also influenced by Christian dogma and practices derived from it. Halloween falls on the evening before the Christian holy day of All Hallows’ Day, thus giving the holiday the full name of All Hallows’ Eve. But it was not until the mass Irish and Scottish immigration during the 19th century that it was brought to North America. Confined to the immigrant communities during the mid-19th century, it was gradually assimilated into mainstream society and by the first decade of the 20th century it was being celebrated coast to coast by people of all social, racial and religious backgrounds.

As for the many traditions of Halloween, in Ireland and Scotland, the turnip has traditionally been carved during Halloween, but immigrants to North America used the native pumpkin, which is both much softer and much larger – making it easier to carve than a turnip. In Scotland and Ireland, guising – children disguised in costume going from door to door for food or coins  – is a traditional Halloween custom, and is recorded in Scotland at Halloween in 1895 where masqueraders in disguise carrying lanterns made out of scooped out turnips, visit homes to be rewarded with cakes, fruit and money.

Halloween costumes are traditionally modeled after supernatural figures such as vampires, monsters, ghosts, skeletons, witches, and devils. In Hallowed Be Thy Name, a religious perspective to the wearing of costumes is offered:”By dressing up in costumes and portraying frightening creatures, who at one time caused us to fear and tremble, we. . . are poking fun at the serpent whose head has been crushed by our Savior.” Furthermore, in the Christian tradition, “images of skeletons, ghosts, graveyard scenes, nighttime creatures such as bats are traditional decorations. Over time, in the United States the costume selection extended to include popular characters from fiction, celebrities, and generic archetypes such as ninjas and princesses.

Special Re-Run: Grandma’s Lye Soap with Guest Bill Robertson Plus Gallinipper Mosquito

.
Grandma's Lye Soap

Grandma’s Lye Soap  with Bill Robertson

LISTEN HERE :
Grandmas Lye Soap with Guest Bill Robertson – AUDIO .mp3

There’s a real Grandma at Remwood Products behind the name – none other than Suzanne Robertson, the owner of the company she runs with her husband Bill Robertson, president. “I do what I’m told,” says the self-effacing Bill. “We’ve been married for 45 years and have five kids and 11 grandchildren.”  Their middle son and youngest daughter are also involved.

It’s tough making a living on just one product, like their outdoor window washing formula (it cleans screens and all) and their other non-consumable products which are  used over and over again. That’s when the resourceful Suzanne started to research soap and began making it in the kitchen of their manufacturing facility in Tulsa, Okla.

“Have you flipped your lid?” was Bill’s initial response. Suzanne began making her soap, first in 5-pound batches, then 12, 16, 32, 64 and so on. Her secret to success was the use of pig fat. They buy it by the semi-load for their line of soaps, which include acne, lye, poison ivy and a beauty bar. Most soap makers use tallow or beef fat.

Pigs, however have a DNA similar to that of humans, says Bill. “They are more compatible. “That’s why Dr. Hildy uses our soap to remove toxins and chemicals. It cleans the pores, works on diabetic sores, yeast infections and some hair re-growth.”

The amazing part is that Remwood never advertises, and yet they have a 20-40% growth every year by word-of-mouth and make 3,200 bars a day.

Even Oprah has discussed their soap on her TV show and its miracle ability to work on acne. “That’s my understanding,” said Bill.

AUDIO: Bill Robertson – Grandma’s Soap – and the Gallinipper Mosquitoes

Dr. Hildy and Bill Robertson from Remwood, Inc (Grandma’s Soap!)  will discuss the recent descent of the Gallinipper mosquito into Florida, that may be related to the new bio-engineered “designer” flying mosquito syringe to be used to inoculate the public.   The Gallinipper mosquito is a term that originated in 1709, which means  “large mosquito” or “crane insect”.

Mosquitos have plagued our environment from their beginning in creation, but they have long lived through the ages and have even bitten one of the original pirates of the Caribbean, Roberto Confresi, the Matos Brothers and his crew as they sailed from Puerto Rico to the shores of Miami and Tampa, Florida.  Confresi was one of the last pirates to be successful in the Carribean as he sailed its sea on his beloved “El Mosquito.”   Yes, even in 1825 these pirates of old would drink their bottle of rum, sing a merry tune and slap those biting blood thirsty mosquitoes deader than a door nail.  Little did they know that one day in the future their ancestors would be inoculated by a designer mosquito for their assumed health or for what else?????

Nnb-11-aMOSQUITO

Capture of El Mosquito, March 2, 1825 of Boca del Infierno, Puerto Rico, Caribbean Sea.

In the summer of 2012, press releases announced that a new vaccine was developed for the disease malaria, which was to be incorporated into mosquitoes that were to be released in Florida.  The release was never known by the public, but after hurricane Debby hit the Florida coast lines, here come the terms “Hurricane Debby brings the descent of the Gallinipper Mosquito to Florida.”  Is the Gallinipper the designer mosquito for injecting unknown vaccines into your body or an edible RFID Radio Pharmaceutical to monitor your body?

The Gallinipper, bed bugs, fleas, wasps, bees and other insects that have been bio-Z-GALLINIPPER-4engineered and released in the US, if not elsewhere are now in our environment…  The unprecedented health, safety and toxicological concerns as associated with exposure to humans, animals, wildlife and natural flora of these new initiators to the mechanisms of cellular injury, dysfunction and disease (death) though advanced materials delivery systems (nanotechnology) will be discussed at length…   Natural remedies will be discussed that are known to assist in these extreme unknown effects from exposures…and we’ll  even talk about the recommendation this week by the Presidential Commission for the Study of Bioethical Issues  to have children (including infants) innoculated with anthrax for a CDC study of its effect upon children.  Well, CDC is still out on MORGELLONS, which was identified by our Dr. Hildy as exposure to advanced nano materials.

LOUIS A. DEL MONTE – Science, Technology, Savvy Life Strategies – Exploring the cutting edge of science, technology, and savvy life strategies
http://www.louisdelmonte.com/about-louis-del-monte/

Imagine a world in which you can instantly monitor your body as if it was a computer. Your glucose levels, heart rate, blood pressure – all instantaneously available without having to administer a test. Imagine a world in which you cut yourself and within moments, your body has healed itself via tiny machines implanted within us. As of now, widespread nanotechnology is not science fiction, it is reality..  And with that reality comes the race between countries to be #1 in Nanoweaponization.

This week on One Cell One Light Radio, Dr. Hildy welcomes Louis A. Del Monte, award-winning physicist, inventor, futurist, bestselling author, featured speaker, CEO of Del Monte and Associates, Inc. and high-profile media personality.

For over thirty years, Del Monte was a leader in the development of microelectronics, integrated circuit sensors, and microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) for IBM and Honeywell. His patents and technology developments are currently used by Honeywell, IBM, and Samsung. As a Honeywell Executive Director, he led hundreds of physicists, engineers, and technology professionals engaged in micro to nanotechnology development for both the Department of Defense and commercial applications.

As global tensions rise in a more-connected-than-ever world, governments are constantly trying to find ways to stay ahead of enemies, and nanoweapons are no exception. Potential nanoweapons include toxic nanoparticles as a poison able to cross biological membranes their bulk counterparts are unable to cross and therefore can be readily absorbed. Another such nanoweapon could be drones the size of insects – tiny drones capable of infiltrating enemy lines unnoticed.

While the uses for nanotech are endless, one thing is certain – the ethical and legal responsibilities of those who utilize them will have to be defined. As author of  Nanoweapons – A Growing Threat to HumanityNearly invisible weapons of mass destruction,  Louis A. Del Monte  is one of the leading voices in creating those definitions.

Join Dr. Hildy and her guest this week as they discuss nanoweaponry on One Cell One Light Radio!

~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~!~

“I am one with the Force, and the Force is with me.”

Though he is perhaps most famous to western audiences as Chirrut Îmwe, a Rebel spy in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, Donnie Yen has had a long and prosperous career in cinema, spanning more than three decades. This week on One Cell, One Light Radio, Dr. Hildy and guest Veronica Hendricks will discuss Yen’s career, his use of varied martial arts styles, and what lies in Yen’s future.

Born in Guangzhou, China in 1963, Donnie Yen is the son of a kung fu master and a newspaper editor. When he was eleven, his family moved to Boston. Here he learned a great love of music as well as learning martial arts from his mother, a pioneer for Chinese martial arts in America. In time, he became a serious practitioner of modern Wu Shu, and his parents decided to send him to Beijing to train at the Chinese capital’s famed Wu Shu academy. It was when Yen returned to Hong Kong en route back to Boston that he met the famed martial arts movie director Yuen Woo-ping.

Donnie Yen exploded onto the Hong Kong movie scene when he was cast in the lead role of director Yuen Woo-ping’s Drunken Tai Chi. His debut film immediately established him as a viable leading man, and Yen has remained a major figure in Chinese action cinema to this day.

Yen’s career blossomed, including roles in over 70 movies and tv shows, including 1993’s Iron Monkey, Yimou Zhang’s 2002 masterpiece Hero, and the Ip Man series, of which a 4th movie is filming right now. He has also been in many American movies, such as the aforementioned Rogue One, Blade II, xXx: The Return of Xander Cage, and a live-action remake of Disney’s Mulan, scheduled for release in 2020, which will also star Jet Li.

Join Dr. Hildy and her guest, Film Producer Veronica Hendricks, as they discuss Donnie Yen on One Cell One Light Radio!

Best places to see cherry blossoms in Japan

As spring approaches, the entire nation turns a shade of pink. Months before they arrive, retailers switch into sakura mode – supermarkets filled with plastic cherry blossom flowers and cherry blossom-flavored foods and beverages. The beautiful trees are a common subject of artists and painters, and are a source of great pride for the island nation.

When the blooms arrive (as confirmed by teams of meticulous cherry blossom officials), it is time to indulge in one of the nation’s all-time favourite pastimes – hanami, which literally translates as “looking as flowers” and refers to flower appreciation picnics under the blooms.

But the cherry blossoms aren’t all Japan is prideful about. There are also the moves of Takeshi Kaneshiro, one of Japan’s most popular actors. Despite being effortlessly good-looking, he chooses to strike a sometimes uneasy balance between the commercially pleasing and the quirky in his choice of film roles. Takeshi, sometimes called the Japanese Johnny Depp, has appeared in more than 50 films, though American audiences would know him best from his role as “Jin” in director Yimou Zhang’s (Hero, Raise the Red Lantern) 2004 film House of Flying Daggers. Kaneshiro is also an accomplished singer, having released 9 albums in Japan in both Mandarin and Cantonese.

Join Dr. Hildy and Veronica this week as they discusses Japan’s culture and beauty on One Cell One Light Radio!

Early life – Takeshi Kaneshiro

Takeshi Kaneshiro’s mother is Taiwanese and his father is from Okinawa, Japan.[1][2]He was born and raised in Taipei but also holds Japanese citizenship.[3][4]

The son of a Japanese businessman and a Taiwanese homemaker,[5] he has two elder brothers; one is his senior by seven years, the other just by one.[6] After graduating from Taipei Japanese Junior High School, he enrolled at English-based Taipei American School, which enabled him to converse in English. While he was studying there, he began doing television commercials and decided to quit school to pursue a singing and acting career. He is multilingual, fluent in Mandarin, Chinese Hokkien, Japanese, and to lesser degrees in Cantonese and English.
