Additionally, lead, asbestos and other toxins have been found in common building materials. What other danger lurks in our homes? And outside. And is literally inescapable, because it’s found nearly everywhere on the planet?
This week on One Cell, One Light Radio, Dr. Hildy™ welcomes Dennis Hooper, MD,
PhD of Realtime Laboratories in Carrollton, Texas to discuss the toxic effects of molds and their mycotoxins.Mold is one of the most common fungi, that grow in the form of multicellular filaments called hyphae. A connected network of these hyphae has multiple, genetically identical nuclei and is considered a single organism, referred to as a colony, unlike yeasts that grow as a single cell. Mold is common in food spoilage as anyone who hasn’t checked on a loaf of bread for a week has learned.Molds produce a toxic chemical product called a mycotoxin. When fungi consumes organic matter in the right conditions (sufficient temperature and humidity), fungi proliferate into colonies and mycotoxin levels become high.
Since mycotoxins weaken their host, fungi may use it as a means as bettering the environment for their reproduction. Are fungi bent on world domination? Unlikely, as they don’t possess the power of rational thought, but if the conditions all over the planet were right, complete fungal infection of Earth is not as silly as it may sound.While mycotoxin effects vary, their effect on humans and animals include death, identifiable diseases or health problems, weakened immune systems, and allergens.
