What’s going on in the world today? That all depends on whom you ask. Some people may mention the unrest in Turkey and the rest of the Middle East, while other may mention that gun violence is at spectacular highs, ignoring evidence that it’s down from it’s mid-90s peak.
Yet others may let you know that Kim Kardashian and Kanye West are about to have a baby. The relevance of news may vary from person to person, but there are some issues that are affect each and every one of us. Unfortunately, oftentimes these are the ones that are ignored the most.
This week on One Cell One Light Radio, Dr. Hildy® welcomes returning guest Nancy Kersey to discuss the latest news in a wide variety of health and science topics.
In recent years, a hot-button issue is that of how common chemicals we use in everyday products affect our health. Are non-stick frying pans safe? What about household cleaners and paint? Can these affect the health of your children? Is it possible to discover illnesses, diseases and other ailments your child may be susceptible to before they’re even born – and fix them genetically?
What about genetic modifications to our food? Are they a way to improve our food sources and supplies or are we playing with fire? What about the questionable practices of Monsanto? The researchers, from UCLA’s Fielding School of Public Health, studied 357 Parkinson’s disease cases along with 754 control subjects – adults from Central California. Those living closer to farms that sprayed the herbicide were found to have a 36% increased risk of Parkinson’s.

Dr. Woody Monte
Professor Emeritus of Food Science and Nutrition at Arizona State University and one of the original whistle-blowers on the dangers of aspartame to discuss the health hazards that artificial sweeteners present.Since its initial approval by the Food and Drug Administration in 1974, aspartame has been the subject of numerous controversies. Highly contested at its approval, aspartame has been linked to a great deal of health risks, such as multiple sclerosis, headaches, anxiety and birth defects, though the documentation of a link has been called into question by some.
Dr. Janet Starr-Hull
In 1991, Dr. Hull was diagnosed with “incurable” Grave’s Disease. Through diligent research and her thorough understanding of toxicity, she later discovered her “Grave’s Disease” was actually aspartame poisoning. She has since worked to inform consumers about the health dangers of artificial sweeteners. In his book While Science Sleeps, Dr. Monte explores the link between the introduction of aspartame in 1981 and the astronomic rise of Alzheimer’s deaths and autism cases during that time, as well as many other health ailments. Dr. Monte’s book also explains to the average person the fascinating process by which methanol, a poison hidden in aspartame and some other foods, is converted to formaldehyde at the very locations in the human body where these diseases originate.
