There are few things in human history that have generated the level of obsession as the female breast. Our first source of food, through time they have become symbols of fertility. They have also become symbols of beauty, as western society grew increasingly obsessed. The image of a buxom woman has long been the unfair standard for women of all ages to aspire to. However, since not all women are blessed (or cursed, depending on whom you ask) with an ample chest, many methods have developed to increase bust lines. Padded bras, increased exercise, enhancing undergarments – while all effective methods, for many women, the best long-term solution to a larger bosom has been breast implants. While the benefit may seem obvious, what are the dangers to this drastic of a measure?

This week on One Cell, One Light Radio, Dr. Hildy welcomes Dr. Susan Kolb, author of The Naked Truth About Breast Implants from Harm to Healing, to discuss the truth about breast implant surgery and the implants themselves. Dr. Kolb is the founder of Plastikos Surgery Center and Millennium Healthcare in Atlanta. Dr. Kolb has developed treatment protocols to help women with silicone, chemical and bio-toxicity problems form breast implants. She has personal experience with the illness and first used the protocols to regain her own health.
It may be surprising to learn that the first breast implant surgery was conducted in 1895, by Austrian surgeon Vincenz Czerny when he used a patient’s adipose tissue, harvested from a benign lumbar lipoma, to repair the asymmetry of the breast from which he had removed a tumor. Through the early part of the twentieth century, many materials were used as implant filler, including ivory, glass and ox cartilage. However, it was in the early 1960s that the two most popular materials were first used, silicone in 1961 and saline in 1964.
Silicone implants, however, have had many complications since they were first introduced. In the 1970s, a number of class-action lawsuits against the Dow Corning Corporation raised serious questions about the safety of silicone breast implants and about larger issues of medical device testing, patient education and the remediation of ones health. It it Dr. Kolb’s mission to further educate women on the potential dangers of silicone implants and the mental and physical health risks they pose.
Join Dr. Hildy and her guest this week as they talk about breast implants on One Cell, One Light Radio!

NAKED TRUTH – Dr. Susan Kolb - Reviews
July 30, 2013 Dr. Susan Kolb Show – from Dr. Hildy
The Naked Truth and Concern of Safety of Silicone Breast Implants
The Dow Corning case raised serious questions about the safety of silicone breast implants and about larger issues of medical device testing, patient education and the remediation of one’s health.
In House Report 104-659, which accompanied a 1997 appropriations bill, Congress asked the U.S. Department of Health and Human services (DHHS) to sponsor a study of the safety of silicone breast implants by the Institute of Medicine (IOM) of the National Academy of Sciences. Funds were committed from several sources in DHHS, the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS) was designed as the lead agency. In late 1997, the IOM agreed to carry out a comprehensive evaluation of the evidence for the association os silicone breast implants, both gel and saline filled, with human health conditions, assemble a comprehensive list of scientific references on this subject and to consider recommendations for further research.
Our special guest, Dr. Susan E. Kolb, M.D., F.A.C.S, A.B.H.M is the founder of Plastikos Surgery Center and Millennium Healthcare in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Kolb has developed treatment protocols to help women with silicone, chemical and bio-toxicity problems form breast implants. She has personal experience with the illness and first used the protocols to regain her own health.
In 2010, Dr. Kolb wrote the book, The Naked Truth About Breast Implants from Harm to Healing, which received excellent reviews by her peers, patients and the world. Her book addresses not only the concerns of silica, silicon, silicone in implants, but brings out the use of these same compounds in the production of anti-microbial agents for luncheon meats. Everyone should read this book if they are considering breast implants, have had them or wants to gain more knowledge about this diverse medical and scientific topic.
The Naked Truth is an excellent resource. It points out many problems including the fact that the medical profession needs to be truly educated so people are cared for and their experience and true affliction treated rather than being labeled, treated with prescriptions and rejected if they do not respond.

“Dr. Kolb has exposed yet another serious FDA defect-allowing not only unsafe drugs but clearly toxic silicon inserted into the bodies of otherwise healthy people. The Hippocratic Oath is even more critical today since each physician must first do no harm.”

Professor of Energy Medicine
President Emeritus, Holos University Graduate Seminary
